Dance 9-12 Performance Is open to all students with or without previous dance training. The course exposes students to many different dance styles and aims to enable each student to develop his or her dance technique, muscular strength, flexibility, fitness level, and performance skills. Students will be required to present learned choreography at several performances during the school year. Dance 9-12 Choreography Students will be integrated with Dance Performance students, and can have the opportunity to set small and/or large group choreography to receive credits. Advanced Dance 10-12 (Dance Company & Dance Foundations) This is a yearlong course that is open to grade 10-12 students with advanced dance skills. This is for the dedicated dancer that is committed to all different dance styles and wants to dance every day all year. Students will be required to present learned choreography at several performances including festivals during the school year. Auditions will be held to select those with the skill level required for this course. Grade 9 students with considerable previous dance training and skill development may join the class upon successful audition. _ |
**NEW** Hip Hop Conditioning/Crew (Grades 9-12 Outside the Timetable) *Previously known as “Hip Hop Crew” Whether you are newer to hip hop or are an experienced dancer wanting to strengthen your technique this course is for you! We will focus on strengthening hip hop culture, technique, grooving, isolations, and textures. We will dive deeper into learning various styles such as waving, popping, locking, house, intro to breakdance, and more. The styles learned will be guided by what the students are interested in learning. Experienced dancers will have the option to audition and participate in the Crew portion of the course. Crew members require a higher level of skill and commitment. They will have the opportunity to perform in the Fine Arts Showcase, Nights of Dance, festival and choreograph student-led pieces. Auditions for Crew will be held in September and availability times will be determined among the teacher and selected members. This course is an inclusive course welcome to all students, genders, and abilities. **NEW** Yoga for Mindfulness (Grades 10-12) Yoga for Mindfulness is a new course designed to help students dedicate time to the combined practice of physical movement and mental/emotional techniques to help manage day to day life. Whether you are a dancer/athlete looking for increased strength and flexibility or someone trying out yoga for the first time, this is the course for you! Students will improve their holistic well-being by learning about stress management, yoga postures, meditation, breathing techniques, mindfulness skills, and relaxation strategies. Through this process, practicing students will learn more about themselves and their body. Students may experience all or some of the following physical benefits: increased strength, muscle tone, balance, flexibility, improved posture, improved immunity and sleep regulation, encourages a healthy diet, deep relaxation and improved energy levels. Students may experience all or some of the following mental benefits: improved concentration, focus, self-awareness and self-esteem, stress and anxiety management, greater intuition, memory, confidence and calmness, mood/emotional management, self-regulation and greater academic success.
